Class Descriptions:
Beginner Kripalu Yoga - this class is perfect for anyone
who is curious about yoga but has been too shy to try it.
You don’t have to touch your toes to join, just a
willingness to get the kinks out. Tight apparel is not
necessary. Wear comfortable clothing, even street clothes
will do, though a dress is not recommended. Simple breathing
exercises, lots of warm-ups and slow, easy postures will
be taught by Cindy, a Kripalu certified teacher since 2000,
who has an innate kinesthetic sense and respect for the
beginner’s mind. Gentle
Kripalu Yoga - being a morning
class, we spend a good amount of time warming up hips,
hamstrings, shoulders, and attitudes. The flow is slow
and gentle. The direction is clear and questions are gladly
answered. This class is great for beginners, as well as
intermediaters who need to enter their AM practice with
consciousness and care. Every now and then we blend Pilates
into the mix to bring attention to the importance of the
core. It’s a fun time, and that east-side sun shines
brightly through the windows to brighten your day and warm
your heart. Core, Balance, & Flexibility - a strong
center and foundation is crucial to a healthy musculoskeletal
system. Cindy integrates abdominal exercises with standing
asanas. The warm-ups are core-based. The postures emphasize
a focus on moving from deep within each body part by practicing
balance, control, and surrender. All levels welcome. A
great mid day break.
YogAerobics - the beautiful aerobic
yoga workout taught in the beginning of each class is repeated
throughout the class so the body gets to know the flow,
eventually providing an invigorating cardiovascular work
out. The flowing postures produce circulation throughout
the body, use major muscle groups, and offer a non-impact
aerobic challenge. Some knowledge of basic yoga postures
is beneficial but not required. Intermediate Kripalu Yoga
- a background in yoga is appreciated. This class builds
upon the basic asanas by integrating vinyasa flows, held
postures, and pranayama. We move beyond the first few limbs
of the eight-limbed path of Yoga into the realm of meditation
in motion – Dhyana and Samadhi. Cindy Sterling is
an RN, a Kripalu certified yoga teacher and a Phoenix Rising
yoga therapist. She teaches with the philosophy that Yoga
is for everyone, no matter what your shape, size, or age.
She is the founder of Sterling Studios, LLC.
Yoga Stretch- is a restorative practice yoga class. The
focus of this class is gentle stretching and rejuvenation.
There is a variety of yoga props (bolsters, blankets, blocks
and straps) used to assist and support the students in
attaining maximum comfort. Many postures practiced during
this class increase flexibility, decrease stress levels,
improve sleep quality and calm the mind. This class is
suitable for many fitness levels and especially good for
those who have limited mobility, chronic stress and tension.!
Happy Hour Yoga - being happy hour,
this class is discounted and it’s all about getting
happy and having fun by practicing some grooving yoga.
Plus, there is still some time afterward to visit your
second favorite happy hour spot in downtown Keene. Use
this class as a smooth transition from your work week to
the weekend. Mind altering substances are not provided,
but we will tap the inner joy keg and learn the benefits
of a “yoga buzz”. All levels welcome.
Candle Light
Kripalu Yoga - is a great class for those needing a variety
in their yoga practice. No class is ever the same. Some
evenings, it’s a gentle, never-get-off-the-floor
class, other evenings we get grooving to Buddha Bar and
you don't know what hit you. There is a focus on core strength,
compassion, and a blend of modern, ballet and belly dance
movements are used for transitions and warm-ups. It’s
always by candle light, and the full moon eves are to die
for!
Listening From Within - is a class designed for eight
women in transition. We all experience change, sometimes
that change is within our control, other times change happens
and we choose how to respond. Either way, we need to have
a method for creating meaning in our life that sustains
us through transition. Wendy Elliott, a licensed mental
health clinician and expressive arts therapist, will be
guiding this class through their transitions.
Kripalu Multi-level- is a
class suitable for beginners (with good fitness level)
and intermediate practioners. This class will tone muscle,
increase flexibility, stamina and ones ability to balance.
Various breathing techniques (pranayama) and yoga postures
(asana) are explored over the semester. This class generally
follows a flow format and introduces new postures through
out the semester but each class is spent practicing a core
posture sequence. The students will notice a good overall
sense of well being as the class progresses through the
semester. Kriplau yoga calms restless thoughts, cultivates
concentration, promotes self awareness and supports mental
clarity. Each students is encourage to move at their
own pace during the class thus allowing for more advanced
practice or a gentler approach based on individual needs.

T’ai
Chi Ch’uan (pronounced
Tai Gee Chwan), often simply referred to as T’ai
Chi, is a traditional Chinese martial art and meditation
that uses slow, flowing, balanced movement, combined
with relaxation, to stimulate the circulation of ch’i (pronounced
chee) or vital/life energy. The benefits of
T’ai Chi are vast and can help the student to gain
an overall sense of well-being, reduce stress and anxiety,
enhance awareness, strengthen the body and improve balance,
flexibility, and circulation. At advanced levels,
T’ai Chi is a formidable system of self-defense. Professor
Cheng Man-ching developed the ‘simplified’ 37-posture
Yang-style form and it is the most widely practiced form
of T’ai Chi in the United States. Students initially
learn the 37-posture form and after learning the basic
form exercise, will be eligible to attend advanced form
classes and “push hands” classes.
